Wolverine information

January 7th, 2017

We are still trying to secure coaches and a spot in the MMFL but would also like to see how many players are interested in this to see if we can make it a go. This is open to all Atoms, Pee Wee and Bantams.  Age groups are set so there are no exceptions on moving up or staying down.

A few things you will need to know before you make this commitment.

It is a huge commitment as we would probably start practicing by the end of July and the first games are usually the weekend after August Long weekend with the final game in about October and then playoffs.  Games will be either Saturday or Sunday depending on the day we get assigned.

We are not guaranteed home games so the possibility of having a game in Winnipeg every weekend could be part of the package.  We did get 3 home games last year but again nothing is guaranteed.

We are estimatingthe cost to be $400 based on 40 kids.  This includes a swag pack,  shorts, shirt, touque, practice jersey and socks and pictures.  This also includes Grey Hound bus rides for your player for 8 games plus playoffs if we get there and assuming we play all in Winnipeg!  This is what we paid last year but again this was based on 40 kids but could change.

It is a competitive league that we would be in.  There is still the fair play rule but it is full football rules with kicking, punting and full CFL rules.

This is a very parent oriented team.  Meaning that we will need a team manager to step up for each team.  Volunteering and help will be mandatory in order to help out the coaches and make this a smooth season.  So please be willing to help if and when needed.

So, please talk to your child about it and then make a decision.  We will be having a sign up sheet at the game field.  If there is enough interest we only take the first 40 kids to make up a team.  If there are more than that they will be on a waiting list.  There is no exceptions as the teams can not consist of more than 40 on the roster.

Minor Wolverines is a summer/fall program that runs from the beginning of August through to mid-late October.  Last year our PeeWee Wolverine team played in the Winnipeg Minor Football Association.  It is a very competitive league that travels for game to Winnipeg every weekend except for a few home games here in Brandon.  If your child is interested in this or you have any other questions, please contact the Board of Directors.  More information to follow….
