All coaches over the age of 17 are required to complete a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check. Criminal Record Checks can be applied for in-person and online from the Brandon Police Service. As a not-for-profit organization, WYFA volunteers can receive a significantly discounted cost of $13.00 for Criminal Record Checks, however the discount is not available for online applications. For in-person applications you must contact the office directly at 204-729-2311 to schedule an appointment. To receive the discounted rate you must provide BPS with a letter from WYFA stating your affiliation with our organization as a volunteer. To request a letter please email wyfaboard@gmail.com.
The Coaching Association of Canada educates and certifies coaches, and celebrates their achievements at all levels of sport. Through its coach education, research, and advocacy programs, the CAC unites partners and stakeholders in its commitment to raise the skills and stature of coaches, and ultimately to expand their reach and influence. Registering with the CAC will assign you a 7-digit National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) number, and create your profile on The Locker, where all of your future training and certifications will be tracked.
The Respect in Sport Program assists coaches, referees, trainers and managers with identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying in sport. The online course curriculum is divided into six modules, which only take 2.5 hours, and can be completed at the user’s own pace. Free for Manitoba Coaches.
The NCCP Making Head Way in Sport eLearning module is designed to empower coaches, parents and participants with the knowledge and skills needed to prioritize participant safety when it comes to concussions. Backed by extensive concussion research, and aligned with the Canadian Guideline on Concussion in Sport, this comprehensive course provides a thorough understanding on what to do to prevent concussions, how to effectively recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion, what steps are needed to take action when a participant has a concussion, and how to support a safe return to sport.
The Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport calls for all sporting environments to be free from physical, sexual and psychological abuse. The Safe Sport Training module aligns with those values. It equips coaches, administrators and others to make decisions that promote athletes’ physical and mental wellbeing and empowers sporting organizations to foster a culture that contributes to athlete success.
After completing the Understanding the Rule of Two eLearning module participants will have a solid understanding of the Rule of Two, improve their ability to assess and implement preventive measures, and be aware of questions to ask to determine their sport organization’s policies Applying the Rule of Two in sport environments provides many benefits, including increasing the safety and security of all participants, reducing the risk of an incident of abuse, protecting everyone (including coaches and volunteers), reducing their organization's liability, and providing additional help if there's an accident or emergency.
